SACHA ATKINSON - MUSICOLOGIST

Playing:

I started out in life learning guitar but by age seven I’d moved onto the trombone, swiftly followed by voice and in my teens piano. I am no virtuoso as I do struggle with stage-fright, so I tend to use my instruments as compositional aids, yet despite my nerves, I have managed some good gigs along the way.

I have had fun in the past playing Synths and Sample Keyboards at many Festivals on the south west circuit, as well as Conducting, Tromboning and Singing in many wonderful spaces such as Wells Cathedral and Bath Abbey along with Concert Halls and Play Houses.

I’ve played as a session musician and recorded sessions with trombone, piano and vocals in numerous studios, and played at some rather quirky venues such as on ships and in caves.

On the whole though I tend to play with smaller community bands and amateur orchestras or choral societies for my own pleasure and learning, which is almost separated from my more professional musicianship, although it’s always a good working practice to participate in live musical work at any level and in any style.
